            The Philippines is located beside an ocean called the Pacific Ocean, where the Ring of fire is. As you may have known already, with the Ring of fire near a country, those places are often the center of natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tsunami. That is why the Philippine government, like any other government, has arranged a risk disaster management plan to strengthen the resiliency of the country in facing natural disasters. With this being said, they started a National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill program.


            In this program, they are teaching students, workers, and citizens what are the proper things to do in an actual earthquake. This program raises awareness and preparedness for everyone in connection to the calamities that we often encounter here in our country such as earthquakes. Before performing a drill they have already pictured the worst-case scenario, so they assign someone to act like they were injured and there are volunteers or workers from the Red Cross that come and rescue them when there are no further expected aftershocks. They are doing this so that in case this truly happens, everyone will know exactly how to perform the rescue operation and they do not panic. This is important because they have the knowledge and experience of an earthquake, even though it is not real, so they can comprehend what to avoid in evading from having casualties.

            In a year, there are a lot more earthquakes that happen in the Philippines than we know even though we do not notice them. Due to the Philippines being an earthquake-prone area, this has become a normal natural occurrence to us which should not be the case. The majority of us will never get used to this disaster, so the best solution for this is we must be able to know the simple do’s and don’ts when facing an earthquake. That is why it is important for everyone to take a part in this program of the government.
