A Dose of Vaccine: A Dose of Hope

Persons with Disabilities and Acces to Covid-19 Vaccination, International Disability Alliance, Retrieved from  https://www.internationaldisabilityalliance.org/access-to-covid19-vaccination

The worldwide spread of the Coronavirus last year is becoming more deadly as time goes by. Deaths are ranging from hundreds to thousands of deaths in a day in most parts of the world. This has been going on for a year now and finally, researchers have developed a vaccine to prepare our immune system in case it is exposed to the actual virus. The vaccines that were manufactured and are being distributed out to hospitals for patients interested in vaccination has an average of 90 to 95 percent efficacy rate, so getting myself vaccinated as well is not so bad considering the efficacy rate of the approved vaccine.

Traditionally, developing a new vaccine from scratch would take up to 5 to 10 years depending on the amount of information the researchers have about the virus. Viruses such as smallpox took centuries before the first vaccination was done. Some people may not know that even before the virus has spread globally, researchers of Oxford University has been preparing for every possible scenario of a virus outbreak, just like what happened in 2014 due to the Ebola outbreak, to be 10 steps ahead in case this happened again in today’s case, the Coronavirus outbreak. The researchers from Oxford also participated in the manufacturing of the vaccine that contributed to the fact that it only took them 10 months of manufacturing instead of the traditional 10 years. Individuals are torn between being anti-vaccine activists and vaccine-hesitant. They might think that it is rushed and question it. They can also argue about the vaccine being deadly for children and pregnant women because it is not advisable for them to get the vaccine, which is understandable. However, the real question should be “Why did it even take 10 years to develop a vaccine when it could be done in 10 months?” This just proves that Science has really improved throughout the decades and how so much can be done with international collaborations to prevent a global pandemic.

Moreover, the mRNA vaccines made by Pfizer BioNTech and Moderna, it used a new technology where the RNA given is the genetic code that creates a protein in the body that alarms the immune system of the Coronavirus if ever encountered and disappears quickly as it is fragile. The vaccine does not contain any toxic chemical like mercury or aluminum or dead virus which is how some other vaccines work. Furthermore, In the case of children and pregnant women not being advised for vaccination is not because it is deadly, instead, researchers have no full efficacy data for ages under the age of the recommended age group. Whilst for pregnant women, they were not included in the clinical trial however, they can still, go for a vaccination with the guidance of their doctors weighing the risks when they want it.

The vaccination for COVID-19 is not mandatory and we can, not participate in it, although it is advisable and recommended for at least 75% of the population to be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity. Subjecting yourselves to vaccination does not mean being a guinea pig for the scientists because it does not contain a virus like any other vaccine developed. Lastly, it is to help the nation and our own system to be aware of the deadly virus.

History from A Beautiful Miracle

Every history has its own story behind it. If you go back to how the Binatbatan Festival began, you will not only believe in humanity again, but also in God. Back in December 1882, 30 years after a chapel was built in Vigan Cemetery in 1852, a devastating epidemic suddenly broke out, claiming the innocent lives of people in the community.      The death of 932 residents during the months of November and December of 1882 was the beginning. The shocking and devastating number of deceased residents due to the epidemic alarmed not only the residents but also other natives and mestizos or residents with Spanish blood, so they asked a favor from the then pastor, Dr. Evaristo Abaya, and asked to visit the Santo Cristo Milagro of Sinait. The people conducted a nine-day novena to the Santo Milagroso and the number of deaths slowly decreased and fortunately stopped on the last day. They praised God for the miraculous miracle and the majority of the reside...

To the Most Precious Woman in My World

Mother, Mom, Mommy, Mama, Nanay. Whatever you call the most precious woman in the world, she's the one you're thinking of. From what I have heard from various mothers, being a mother to her child or children is the most difficult yet fulfilling job a woman can ever have. Mothers carry their child for nine months. Amidst the pain and struggle of carrying a child inside of them, they never gave up, which is why we are all here today.      Childhood is the hardest part of taking care of your child, my mother says, because children don't have minds of their own yet and are unaware of the things they do, whether it's something good or something bad. Mothers sacrifice a lot for their family, their children. They sacrifice their freedom to take care of and provide for a newborn baby. And so we celebrate Mother's Day. Every second Sunday in May, we honor our mothers for their sacrifices and the love they have shown us throughout our lives. It's the da...

All-Out Me

The words all-out are what I believe describes myself the most. When I want, like, or love something or someone, I give all of me for them. Some may disagree but it’s my life so I do what I want.      Just like when I am interested in a group or band called IZ*ONE, I go all the way to show how much I love them and support them in their album sales and nominations. I saved all of my allowance in school just to buy their first full album, which became a record-breaking comeback selling over 500,000 albums and I am so proud to be one of it. When they come back with new songs and albums, I stream their music videos day and night. And when it comes to their music show wins, I try to spread the ways on how to vote for them on my social media accounts. Of course, it paid off because they took home all seven music shows trophies, which made them one of the few famous groups who managed to achieve an all streak win. My mother sometimes tells me off on why I am ...
