The Elderly has always stated
that “Education is the key to success.” Our parents always say that the only
treasure they can give is education. Amidst the challenges everyone is facing,
we would always find a way to have the courage and determination to strive for
our studies. But with this current global crisis, every human being has their
feet swept away with these overwhelming questionnaires and situations, a lot of
us are struggling to take our minds off which one of it is “How can they
continue their studies with this ongoing pandemic?”
Although a lot of Filipinos want to start the school year
demanding an academic freeze, the other half voiced their opinions about the DepEd
and the Philippines are still not ready for the opening of classes. DepEd on
the other hand has said that school has to start this year even if it is late,
which I agree to. If the opening of classes had started next year, not only
time will be wasted. Countless teachers, professors can lose their jobs and
private schools have to stop their operations completely due to no source of
income for the salary of their employees, staff, and maintenance for the
school. However, thankfully, schools have started last October 5. The issue of
the opening may have quieted down but a post from a concerned citizen has
caused another uproar that awoken those who wanted an academic freeze. Due to
this mistake slipping from the DepEd’s eyes, others said that this is why our
country is still not ready for the school year, which the DepEd disagreed
to.
So for this new learning system by DepEd, there is a
major need for supplies in order to fulfill the modular learning and internet
connection for online learning. However, the students and teachers have
voiced out that they are lacking in both which is making it harder for everyone
to have a quality education. Not everyone has internet access and the best
signal for their smartphones for the conducting of online classes so it is a
struggle for everyone especially those who live in rural areas. The lack of
funds for bond papers and printer supplies for the printed modules of students and gadgets for online learning also adds up to the struggle.
But despite the numerous challenges not only students and
teachers but also parents are facing, kind-hearted fellow citizens have shown
their support for those who cannot afford learning paraphernalia’s for this day
such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and internet connection. They gave them
one that they can use in the future. It touches my heart that each Filipino is
making efforts not for their own but for the happiness and future of others.
That amidst the crisis, they still manage to be generous but humble, and that I
think, is the quality of education during this pandemic.
